Angelic Prince?

It's too early to declare anyone the clubhouse leader in the Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols sweepstakes, but don't discount the Angels jumping into the mix. Reports out of Los Angeles indicate the Angels have expressed an interest in both the slugging first basemen.

No team is perfect

You just have to love meaningful MLB games in September. Brewers fans are experiencing something that most have not witnessed in their entire lifetimes, a team churning towards a division championship. It's justified to hang on every pitch from several teams. And today, just when it looked like the rival Cardinals were going to spank the Mets in route to their 5th straight win and claw to within 1 game of Atlanta in the Wild Card and 4 of the Crew in the Central, their bullpen coughs up 6 runs in the 9th to lose 8-6. Crew's magic number dropped to 2 with 6 to play and Atlanta, which is leaking all kinds of oil, regains a 2 game lead in the Wild Card.

It is now up to the Crew to take care of business vs. the Marlins and Pirates at Miller Park. The Central crown should come any day now, possibly even tomorrow. But with a slim one game lead over the D'backs for the 2nd best record in the NL...it is of utmost importance to maintain that over the season's final six games. Maintain that position and if Atlanta stave's off St. Louis, the Crew will host the NLDS vs. the Braves. Drop behind the Snakes and that means Milwaukee is headed to Philadelphia to take on the big machine. Monumental difference. Zona finishes the season with three games vs. San Francisco and three vs. the Dodgers. Crew's schedule is undoubtedly easier, but as we all witnessed today in St. Louis, nobody is perfect in this game.

In the thick of the Pennant Chase...a Practice Squad update

While the hometown Brewers Magic Number sits at 3 pending what the Cardinals do tonight, a transaction concerning the Packers practice squad is the angle here. WR Chastin West was signed off the Packers practice squad onto the Jaguars active roster. No news concerning the practice squad should be labeled as big news, but West is a guy many writers had pegged to take over for Donald Driver, perhaps as soon as next season. Some even speculated that his strong camp in 2011 made Driver expendable entering the current campaign.

Green Bay replaced him on the practice squad with DL Johnny Jones, a 310 pound undrafted rookie out of Marshall who had a cup of coffee in the Dolphins camp prior to being waived. The move is a healthy one for the team, as it enjoys incredible depth at its WR position on the active roster and still has Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel at the position on the PC as well as Shaky Smithson on the IR. The DL is far and away the thinnest position on the team.
